Natural Skin Care for Healthy Hormones and Smooth Menstrual Cycles
If you have been following me on Instagram you probably know I have recently started switching my skin care, home cleaning, make up over to natural products. I have been doing this slowly for several reasons:
I do not have many hormonal imbalances at this time I urgently need to remedy because I have mastered my nutrition and lifestyle for easy periods, balanced blood sugars, and my PMS symptoms have gone on vacation.
Skin care and makeup is expensive in general & nice products are an investment.
I want to make sure I am getting products that ACTUALLY work, so research and trial has been in action.
How does skin care products impact hormones?
Hormones are delicate, especially when they are out of balance. Many ingredients in skin care products are endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC) meaning they interfere with hormone binding, transport, and breakdown in the body. Different types of ingredients impact reproductive hormones differently from throwing the balance off between estrogen and progesterone which impacts worsened PMS symptoms, hormonal acne, fertility, and so much more. Endocrine disrupting chemicals can also disrupt the balance between FSH and LH impacting conditions like PCOS to become more severe.
Natural skin care products I have been loving:
Dr. Bronner’s - Pure-Castile Bar Soap
I never had been a bar soap girlie, but have been loving it. It works great for me, plus ends up being cheaper since it lasts longer than liquid soap.
THAYERS Original Witch Hazel Astringent with Aloe Vera
This is something I have always used since I can remember, but I love it as a refresh or after a face wash.
This is my hyper-fixation skin care product as of now. I use it morning and night and my skin feels so soft and pores look smaller from the last month of using.
Cocokind Revitalizing Eye Cream
I have been using this eye cream for about a year and I do not for see myself going back! I am someone who has chronic eye bags, and this helps provide glow!
Babo Botanicals Daily Sheer Moisturizing Mineral Tinted Sunscreen
Daily sunscreen to protect my skin from the sun, but also provides light tint for even skin tone. I really like this one!
Babo Botanicals Zinc Sunscreen Lotion
I use this when I need sunscreen for my body. Works in water, I have used it several times while paddle boarding.
Goat Lotion from Bumble and Bleat in Idaho Falls
Working on switching my lotions out slowly, and this is my favorite I have found!
Deodorant was the skin care item I was most nervous about switching out. I had been using Old Spice men for years and did not want the B.O. But surprisingly I transitioned with little stink and don’t feel grossed out by slightly damp under arms like I thought I would. (I tried Lume brand lotion and I could not get over the smell of the actual product).
Next up to try:
Cocokind Postbiotic Acne Serum
Summer makes me break out more, so I am wanting to try a product that is natural and sensitive to support my minor breakouts in addition to to support my skin. I will report back!
ACURE Curiously Clarifying Shampoo
Slowly waiting for Costco size shampoo to run out. I have heard great things about this brand.
Here is tool you can use to check your products in regards to reproductive hormone safety (& more). I recommend using this tool to see what is most important to switch out first!
If hormone imbalance is something you need support with ( or you suspect you have a hormone imbalance due to extreme periods, PCOS, PMS taking over your life each month, trouble getting pregnant, insulin resistance, etc) switching to natural hormone safe skin care is just one piece of healing your hormones.
