I Can’t Stop Craving Sweets

You finish your dinner and you NEED a sweet but you threw away all the cookies yesterday when you felt out of control. By now you have eaten all the fruit, several protein bars and sent your husband to the store for ice cream because you just can’t feel satisfied.

You feel like a failure without control over your eating. First thing, the problem isn’t you. Insulin resistance and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) impacts your body’s ability to regulate blood sugar. The high then low sugar in the blood from the excess insulin being released can trigger severe sugar cravings.

That is where it gets vital to support your blood sugar through out the day. Here are my top tips:

  1. Start your day with a protein rich breakfast like a Greek yogurt bowl, egg sandwich, or protein smoothie.

  2. Eat a balanced snack or meal every 3-4 hours (if you eat lunch at 12, then wait until 7 pm for dinner you are most likely to feel ravenous and want all the sweets around).

  3. Get in your fiber rich carbs! Let’s aim to get in carbs with every meal ladies.

These tips are just a glimpse of shifts my Whole Body Hormone Healing clients adjust to decrease their extreme cravings and mindless night time snacking. Which results in lowered A1c, health confidence, and less inflammation in their body!

Sometimes it takes more than simple nutrient adjustments because health fears are deep ROOTED. Fear over gaining weight, fear over not being able to get pregnant, fear of developing type 2 diabetes, and fear of not being in control. I have heard it all, and experienced these fears myself.

If this is you, ask yourself… what fear do I have if you don’t change my mindset around food and health? What fear do you have if I don’t adjust my current habits? If a fear comes up, you aren’t alone. But it also means it is time to seek support to transform the way you react emotionally to food and add positive health habits you will actually stick with past January 1st.

I have created Holistic Health Circle, Live Well Dietitian’s first ever group experience supported by your health insurance to get you living your dreamy life with a blend of education, knowledge you need to reverse pre-diabetes and NEVER slip into diabetes, journal prompts to shift your mindset around your body and health surrounded by a supportive community of like-minded women to further your healing.
